Beach Communities: Virginia Beach
๐
Croatan Beach
At the southern end of Virginia Beach awaits a coastline that's a little hard to find, but definitely worth the search. Croatan Beach is three quarters of a mile long and stretches from Rudee Inlet to Camp Pendleton. With 2 designated surfing areas (one at the north beginning at Rudee Inlet and one at the south at Camp Pendleton), it has long been a favorite of local surfers. Lifeguard services are now available for swimmers and surfers alike, and are situated along the entire beach front. This upscale beach community consists primarily of single-family homes away from the hustle and bustle of the Resort Area.
Because of the popularity of the beach, the City now operates a 500+ car parking lot year round at Camp Pendleton. To the immediate south of Croatan Beach, adjacent to the Municipal Parking Lot are two secure military bases - Camp Pendleton and the Dam Neck Amphibious Base.
North End Coastal Living in Virginia Beach
The North End is a long, narrow strip of beach running from the famous Cavalier Hotel north to the historic Cape Henry Lighthouse. Commonly referred to as the โGold Coastโ, it is located from 41st Street to 89th Street. Its eastern boundary is the Atlantic Ocean; its western boundary is partly formed by First Landing State Park. You can reach the North End of Virginia Beach via Shore Drive (from the west) or you can approach from the south via Atlantic Avenue or Pacific Avenue.
There are many types of classic beach homes here that vary from traditional beach condos, duplexes, and cottages to multi-million dollar mansions. The gorgeous unobstructed views draw you in. Many of the oceanfront homes have an expansive view of the Atlantic that you just canโt beat. You are sure to get swept away in the quiet serenity and privacy of this established community, yet appreciate that you are close enough to the ocean front area to enjoy all the amenities a resort area offers.
Donโt miss First Landing State Parkโs 2889 acres and 20 miles of trails! Virginia's most visited state park offers nature and history programs, a boat launch, and plenty of places to picnic as well as a multitude of activities including swimming, biking, boating, and hiking.

Though locals may not often recommend Chesapeake Beach (aka Chicโs Beach), many believe it to be the best beach in the city! The Chesapeake Bay offers calmer and gentler waters than the Atlantic Ocean. It's wonderful for every age! The Chesapeake Bay beaches are the northern-most beaches of the area found off of Shore Drive.
There are plenty of water recreation options, and since it is a smaller coastal town you don't lose the close knit, laid back beach vibe! That's exactly the beauty of this area: it is located away from the tourist filled beaches, there is the calmness of a bay, and the option for numerous restaurants that will delight any palette! If you are more of a history buff, or just enjoy a historic area, you will love the historical "Pleasure House" area! At one point, it was the talk of the town for gambling and gossip! Additionally, you can venture to the Cape Henry lighthouse for a spectacular view of the beach and surrounding areas! If you like a more upbeat vibe, there is the popular Chic's Beach Festival, which energizes the area with live music, multiple food trucks, and of course...spirits!!!
