Your housing decision may include more than the monthly payment or rent. Consider your current BAH, commute time, tolls, utilities, insurance, flood exposure, and the costs associated with the type and location of the home you're considering.
Building a Realistic PCS Housing Budget
Start with your current BAH. Use the official Department of Defense BAH calculator for your duty location, pay grade, and dependency status.
Think beyond distance to the gate. A home that appears closer to your duty station may not always mean the easiest commute. Hampton Roads bridges, tunnels, tolls, and traffic patterns can make location especially important.
